Sedonans for Mayor and Council Candidates (SMCC) has been formed by a group of concerned, non-partisan citizens. The group was formed in anticipation of the first direct election of the mayor of Sedona, which takes place in 2006. The mission of this committee is to seek and encourage quality candidates to run for Sedona mayor and City Council positions. SMCC will involve the public in all aspects of this process. The group will incorporate the public in identifying leadership characteristics for both the mayor and council positions. It plans to conduct public forums in which all candidates will have an opportunity to respond to questions regarding philosophy of leadership and positions on issues facing the city. The members of SMCC share an optimism and excitement about the upcoming election and the possibility of identifying a number of individuals with outstanding personal and leadership qualities to present to the community for consideration. SMCC represents a broad cross-section of Sedona. Ira Marxe is chairman, Joel Staadecker is treasurer. To date, other members of the group include: Pat Bower, June Cornelison, Tom Leenhouts, Jim Pease, Lelia Schoenberg, Steve Segner, Thom Stanley. For more information call Ira Marxe at 282-2187 or Joel Staadecker at 282-4411. | ![]() |
