Ever wondered how your environment affects your art? We are affected by the place that we choose to live and work in and no one knows that better than Lucy Lippard. Who is she? Only one of the foremost art critics in the United States, and she will be in Sedona to give a slide show and lecture about “Art, Tourism, and Place” on Sun, 4:30 pm, April 6 at the Sedona Creative life Center. Lucy Lippard is regarded as a popular art critic, theorist, author and political activist, but she prefers to be regarded as a ”cultural critic." Ms. Lippard is an internationally known writer, activist and art curator from the U.S. and is the author of eighteen books on contemporary art, receiving numerous awards and accolades from literary critics and art associations. This event is being sponsored by the Sedona Visual Artists' Coalition, Sedona Chamber of Commerce, Gardens for Humanity, the Institute of Eco-Tourism, Keep Sedona Beautiful, the Sedona Arts & Culture Commission and the Arizona Commission on the Arts. The first annual Sedona Bike Bash - a bicycle festival for enthusiasts of all ages - is set for Sat, April 12, 8am to 4pm at the Sedona Heritage Museum 735 Jordan Road in Uptown Sedona. Besides fun rides, the festival expo area will offer trick demonstrations, kids' activities, a Bike Rodeo, bicycle safety zone, antique 'tall tricycle" demo and vendor booths. In the Museum's Packing Shed will be live music, Bike & Bean's gourmet coffee bar and the Museum's silent auction and raffle. A fun ride will end the day at the Oak Creek Brewery in West Sedona. Flagstaff Cultural Partners & the Artists Coalition of Flagstaff present: 6th Annual Recycled Art Exhibition Coconino Center for the Arts Opening Reception: Sat, April 5, 6 to 9pm. Exhibition open: April 8 - 30, 11am to 5pm, Tues-Sat. Artist demos & children's workshops: April 12, 13, 19, 26, 20, 11am to 5pm. The Coconino Center for the Arts is located at 2300 N. The Verde Valley Sinfonietta will present its second annual Emerging Artist Concerts on April 26 & 27. award-winning pianist from Los Angeles, seventeen-year-old Connie Kim-Sheng, will join the Sinfonietta for two performances of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, a special children's concert and pizza party on April 26, and annual Soiree for the Sinfonietta. Also, on April 27 following the orchestral concert. The Verde Valley Sinfonietta is a small orchestra strings, woodwinds, brass and timpani - in its third year of operation. Its mission is to build community in the Verde Valley by presenting the best of music for small orchestra in a congenial and affordable setting. The Sixth Annual Sedona Artists Open Studios Tour will kick off the 2008 event with a month long gallery show sponsored by the Sedona Art Vault of Kinion Fine Art, 361 Forest Road in Uptown Sedona, April 2 thru May 4. Over 35 artists from the Greater Sedona area will display samples of the unique artwork that will be available during the Open Studios Tour. The Open Studios Tour itself will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 3 & 4, when the Artists’ Studios will be open from 10 am – 5 pm. Along with the gallery show, there will be a Preview Reception at the Sedona Art Center 15 Art Barn Road in uptown Sedona, Friday, May 2, from 5 – 8 pm. The reception is free to the public. Brittany Reilly will be coming to Sedona, AZ on April 26th, 8pm Free Admission, performing at the Oak Creek Brewery with the Almost Acoustic Band supporting her new CD release “Good Old Country Sound”. Blazin’ M Ranch will be hosting a special fundraising event for Rainbow Acres on Mon, April 28 at Blazin’ M Ranch, and all proceeds go to help finish the construction of Roberta Patrick House at Rainbow Acres. (Rainbow Acres, in Camp Verde, a non-profit, faith-based, assisted living facility for adults with developmental disabilities.) Tickets are $50 each and include the famous Blazin’ M chuckwagon-style dinner and comedy revue. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, raffles, and a conventional auction featuring a wide array of special items, including some rare Disney memorabilia.
